This is the definitive documentary about Vaporwave, whose story is told by some of the most influential voices in the scene’s history. The artists, the writers, the labels and (most importantly) the fans. This film is a journey through time and a love letter to the music that so many of us adore. But in order to make our vision come true we need your support. Work on the film has commenced, and interviews would have been underway already were it not for the outbreak of COVID-19.
This story is truly global, and everyone who contributes to the campaign will be helping to ensure that we can get to as many people and places as possible.
Our aim is to complete the film by January 2021, but we are aware of the significant impact on international travel at present as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. We will, of course, keep supporters updated every step of the way.
We couldn’t tell this story without the support of some of the scene’s most influential producers, labels and characters.
We’ve been working flat out to secure the participation of many of the Vaporwave scene’s originators, its key players over a decade of evolution, and the most influential voices from the current crop of talented artists, labels and writers.
We’re proud to have already secure interviews with some of the scene’s legends, including:
To coincide with the launch of the campaign, we’ve put together a companion album telling the story of Vaporwave through a carefully curated selection of music – old and new.
The album will be released alongside the crowdfunding campaign and will be available on two limited edition vinyl pressings, on cassette and on MiniDisc.
We’re exceptionally grateful to the artists and labels – new and old – for giving us permission to use these tracks and for bringing this wonderful music to life; and to My Pet Flamingo for producing the physical copies for the campaign.

We have identified a target budget of £30,000 for the crowdfunding campaign, with additional investment being made by the team, and applications being submitted to local film and creative funds. The project is ambitious, but entirely achievable within our budget, as great care and attention has been taken to ensure we are not underestimating the scope required.
Any additional funds that we secure over and above that amount will be used to enhance the final product, and to promote the film to a wider audience. Our aim is to produce a broadcast quality feature-length film that we can take globally to festivals and events, promoting the scene and finding its natural home online.
The story of Vaporwave is universal and the production of this film will require the team to travel throughout the World – with many of its key protagonists located in countries as far apart as the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Canada and further afield.
The target budget is based upon expected costs associated with film production – the main cost will be the practical aspects, including location and kit hire, travel expenses. Also the nature of this project more than others means we need to have a strong eye on our post-production support, in addition to manufacturing costs for the perks and merchandise.
We’d like to thank each and every one of you in advance. Nobody Here is an ambitious project and a labour of love. We want to make a film that everyone in the scene can be proud, and its success will be something that we can all share.
As you can imagine, aside from pledging you can also support the project in a number of other ways – including by word of mouth! So please share this campaign with anyone you know who may be interested, and if you know of any ‘characters’ who might have an interesting perspective on the history of our scene drop us a line at: info@nobodyherefilm.com

Difficult to define, vaporwave means many different things to different people. Derided by some as a meme, declared dead many times, and yet vibrant enough to spawn a hundred sub-genres.
Vaporwave is meme turned mainstream – washed down with an Arizona Iced Tea. The sound of a laptop infected by unprotected exposure to Limewire, or the cavernous emptiness of an abandoned shopping mall.
It’s hazy, ‘faux-memories’ of an era that many of us were too young to have experienced first-hand. And yet those memories seem tangible, and meaningful, nonetheless.
It’s at once an art movement and an audio experience. Political – and yet simultaneously apolitical; a cynical, sneering parody of rampant consumerism.
Unless we’re overthinking it? Maybe that’s half the fun. After all, Vaporwave is Dead. Long Live Vaporwave…
In the post-modern sounds of seapunk and mall soft; future funk and ecco jams. Vaportrap and late night lo-fi.
